NIH SBIR awards administrative supplements to enhance diversity of the research and entrepreneurial workforce (“Diversity Supplement”). The award will enable the recruitment and training of students, postdoctoral fellows, and eligible investigators who would be new to the SBIR/STTR company.

To be considered for this supplement, small businesses must apply with a trainee candidate that they have identified. While a small business can identify a trainee candidate on their own, NCI SBIR created the Mentor And Trainee Connections HUb Program (MATCHUP) to introduce top-tier talent and SBIR/STTR companies eligible for administrative supplements. After being accepted into MATCHUP, participants will have access to an online platform where they can view potential partners whom the NCI SBIR can introduce them to. Through MATCHUP, NCI SBIR aims to facilitate networking for participants to identify potential partners to apply for the Diversity Supplement.
